Abstract

Subclinical hypothyroidism is the elevation of thyroid-stimulating hormone in the presence of normal Free Thyroxine values. Currently it has acquired great relevance due to the maternal-fetal complications it produces and the intellectual repercussions in children born to mothers with subclinical hypothyroidism. Objective: provide knowledge of subclinical hypothyroidism in pregnant women from the collection and synthesis of updated scientific information obtained from bibliographic reviews that are understandable for the general population, strengthening learning in students in the health area. Method: a narrative study was carried out for the case of the bibliographic search, in addition to data collection from medical records of the Gynecology service at the Riobamba General Hospital in the period January 2020-December 2021. Results: through a search from the scientific literature on the subject, 40 bibliographic sources were found, which after a thorough screening and selection process were reduced to 30, adding the information obtained through the medical records that meet the research conditions. Discussion: This article covers a review of the clinical aspects, diagnoses and complications of subclinical hypothyroidism in pregnancy. Conclusion: early screening of thyroid function makes it possible to detect pregnant women with some dysfunction, in this case subclinical hypothyroidism, which predisposes them to pregnancy complications, and to initiate appropriate prevention, surveillance and treatment measures.
