Recreational activities as a strategy to extend the tourists stay period

Abstract
The objective of this research is to establish a strategy to increase the length of stay of tourists visiting hostels in the Riobamba canton, Chimborazo province, Ecuador. The study was carried out in the Miró Hostel belonging to the referred canton, using a methodology of mixed approach, of observational descriptive type in order to determine the ideal strategy for the fulfillment of the purpose proposed in the investigation. The data are analyzed through techniques of descriptive statistics that allowed to determine the profile of the tourist that visits the inn. Based on historical demand, the sample was calculated to apply information collection techniques. The data obtained were checked with information referred by key informants selected among the workers of the inn. The information allowed to determine that the time of visit to the hostel is up to two days, that the services most requested are tours of nature, culture, adventure and that the time of stay is related to the lack of recreational activities in the place. Finally, the study concludes that the strategy to meet the demand of visitors is the implementation of tours of nature and culture.
