Health effects from exposure to organophosphate chemicals and carbamates
Abstract
The article summarizes the data of the investigation carried out on the affectation to health by exposure to organophosphate chemicals and carbamates, the objective was to determine the existence of the alteration of liver function in workers who are in indirect contact with these chemicals. The study took place in the storage and dispatch warehouses of the BIOTEC chemical company in the city of Guayaquil; A total of 60 workers were examined from whom a blood sample was taken to perform a laboratory analysis to determine the levels of plasma and erythrocyte cholinesterase, levels of the enzymes TGO, TGO and FAL, the latter allowed to identify the alterations in liver enzymes. Simultaneously, a survey was carried out to know the sociodemographic profile, frequency of exposure to chemical products, knowledge of the regulations on health and labor protection issues; factors that could be associated with this type of damage. The methodology used has a qualitative-quantitative approach, not experimental, descriptive with a cross section. The results determined the absence of alterations in plasma, erythrocyte cholinesterase and liver enzyme values. In conclusion, there is no risk when being indirectly exposed to organophosphate and carbamate chemicals.
