Analysis of flower exports and the relationship of quality certificates in the flower sector of Ecuador in the last decade
Abstract
The main purpose of the current research is to evaluate the impact of flower exports and quality certifications in the flower sector of Ecuador during the last decade, exactly in the periods from 2011 to 2021, for this the inductive method was selected that generates a hypothesis. The selected variables were: quality certificates, which represented the dependent variable because it is involved in the development of the sector and its competitiveness in the global market, which is reflected in the independent variable, which was flower exports. From the data collected, we found that the flower sector had a decrease in the years 2015 and 2020 in terms of the implementation of quality certificates, this was caused by an economic crisis in the Russian sector and by the global pandemic. In general, quality certifications have boosted the competitiveness of the Ecuadorian flower sector in the global market, consolidating itself as a key factor in its growth. However, external events such as economic crises or pandemics negatively affect this sector.
