Entrepreneurial intention of students from the business area and the university entrepreneurial context

Abstract

Education to promote entrepreneurship is one of the most important challenges for universities. This work contributes to the discussion about the impact of the university environment towards the formation of entrepreneurial intentions, taking as a reference the case of the Faculty of Accounting and Administration of the Autonomous University of Yucatan, located in the southeast of Mexico.

The objective of the work was to measure the values of entrepreneurial intention and the variables related to it, taking as a reference the model of planned behavior of Azjen (1991) and the perception of the students of their entrepreneurial university environment.

A constructivist paradigm of research was applied, under a quantitative method. The data collection instrument was a survey based on the Liñán & Chen proposal. The sample was compose of 148 undergraduate students in economic- administrative areas of the Autonomous University of Yucatan with a 95% confidence level and a 7.8% margin of error. The data was collected in April and May 2020 in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
