Study of optimization of motorized traffic in road networks using computer technologies

Abstract

In Latin American cities, there are serious drawbacks to motorized traffic due to population growth and high demand for traveling in motor vehicles. For this reason, the purpose of this research is to solve this problem using appropriate indicators that help to evaluate the current characteristics of a city. On one hand, the morphology and topology of the urban network were evaluated, detecting possible factors that cause, motorized traffic congestion, loss of time and street interruptions. On the other hand, it was analyzed through emerging technologies that provide weighing of urban and interurban road networks to calculate optimal travel times, distances and routes. The results of these studies are of interest to public and private organizations dedicated to urban planning and mobility, transport management in small cities and valid for medium or large cities. Therefore, what is relevant in these obtained results is reliable data that shows the main streets and avenues of Ecuadorian cities vulnerable to increased traffic and passenger mobility, to make corrective decisions that would improve the quality of life of its inhabitants.
